The European Border and Coast Guard Frontex recently turned 20 years old. And while we have already talked and learned a lot about the structure and its responsibility in human rights violations at the European external borders, Frontex continues to change and expand. The latest mandate extension in 2019 has led to Frontex focusing even more on its presence in non-EU-member states. This is based on bilateral working agreements. But what do these look like, how do they differ or resemble each other in different regions of the world? How is Frontex presence in third countries connected to externalization policies and neo-colonial power structures of the European Union? And how can we unite our struggles and voices on Frontex across the Balkanroute and the Mediterranean? We will discuss these and other questions with our speakers. We are looking forward to:
Dan Schoolar, Research coordinator Collective Aid
Ibrahima Konate, Founder of Missing Voices (REER)
Matthias Monroy, Editor of civil rights journal Bürgerrechte & Polizei/CILIP and nd.Der Tag
We are looking forward to an exciting discussion. Spread the word!
